Alfonso Ribeiro opened up about playing the infamous character “Carlton Banks” on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
In a recent interview with Closer Weekly, Ribeiro says his career took a halt after that role. “It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play, but it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else,” he told the outlet.
Ribeiro’s comments must’ve struck a cord in his fans, as one fan took to X to make a career suggestion to the actor. “@tylerperry needs to revamp @alfonso_riberio career, I just know he could,” the person wrote.
Shockingly, Ribeiro responded, “I don’t need or ever want that man to do anything for me.”‘
There’s no word on if Ribeiro and Tyler Perry are pulling a Kendrick Lamar and Drake- or Ribeiro is just not interesting in working with Perry. However, noted on Complex, Ribeiro has twelve directing credits on the former Tyler Perry sitcom Meet the Browns.
Perry has yet to respond to Ribeiro’s comments.
Ribeiro previously opened up about constantly being asked to do the “Carlton” dance.
While on Jimmy Kimmel, Alfonso was asked if he wanted to “kill people” who asked him to dance. Alfonso answered, “I won’t say kill, but I don’t have a love for it like they do. I mean I typically get asked to do the dance pretty much every day of my life if I go outside. If I go anywhere, I just randomly hear people [say], ‘Do the dance.’” He went on to say, “I’m a Black guy that’s not dancing for you. That’s not gonna happen.”
