Alba increasingly focuses on strength and health over appearance. "As I've gotten older and after I became a mom, it became more of a priority to be healthy for the right reasons," she says. "It's more important to have a balanced approach instead of trying to be perfect."
Alba has been practicing yoga for years, and likes to mix it up. Aside from traditional yoga, she enjoys more high-energy versions. "Hot Power Flow Yoga, [which is like] bootcamp mixed with hot yoga … [with] good fast paced dance music [and] … a little of everything. It's my new jam!" she says.
Alba's discovery of Pilates was a revelation for the star, who says the workouts were a new challenge. "I feel every muscle in my core," she says. "I never even knew I had those things."
Alba enjoys family walks with her children, setting a good example for them through her own habits. "If I'm not going to sweat I go for a walk for an hour and a half [with the girls]," she says. "I'm not so much into preaching, more into practicing. I like to swim with them, go on family walks. The kids like it too, they go crazy, bouncing off the walls if I keep them inside. They'll throw balls around, and I'm going, 'You can't throw balls in the house! That's our lamp!'"
Alba starts the day with some gentle self-care. "In the mornings, I put on a face mask and a thick swipe of lip balm so I can be under this layer of hydration while I'm getting my coffee," she says. "My son is always like, 'Mommy, what's that?' Every time he looks over at me when I've got the mask on, it's like he's seeing me for the first time. But it reminds me that I'm allowed to take care of myself as well. It's a little bit of tender loving care to start the day."
