The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is finally here in Boise and will continue through Labor Day weekend. Today is CapEd Kids Day, where kids can take a free tethered balloon ride.

We all have Scott and Laurie Spencer to thank for this special event.

"Scott had a passion for ballooning ever since he was a young man, and he brought that passion," said Laurie, talking about her late husband.

She says his parents gave him the choice of a hot air balloon or a truck as a kid, and he picked a balloon. That was a good choice as he would spend decades bringing joy to people everywhere, including in Boise, where Scott and Laurie call "home."

"I started flying very early. I was a pilot before I met Scott, and we were able to join forces, and I think it made us a great team. We each had strengths that we could play off, and the passion brought us together."

Laurie and Scott worked together on the Spirit of Boise, and since his death, Laurie has carried it on.

This year, 50 hot air balloons will be in Boise. CBS2 hopes to see you there starting Wednesday, Aug. 30.
