Hugo Lloris is not ruling out a return to Nice as the veteran goalkeeper faces an uncertain future at Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
At the age of 36, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2024, where the France captain ends up next – presuming he does bid an emotional farewell to life in North London over the coming weeks – depends on how much importance he places in enhancing his bank balance.
According to The Athletic, an unnamed Saudi Arabian outfit are offering Hugo Lloris the chance to treble his £100,000-a-week wages.
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to stand in his way either; the veteran enduring an error-strewn campaign.
But Lloris is reluctant to nail his colours to any particular mast for the time being; the former Lyon skipper admitting that he may be open to a return to a Nice side where he started his career all the way back in 1997 but stopping short of predicting whether a move is genuinely on the cards.
Could Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris return to France?
“I am very attached to the city of Nice, as you know,” Lloris tells BFM Nice Cote d’Azur.
“I can’t speak about concrete things. The club has to finish the season first. There are two goalkeepers of high quality (at Nice), including one that I’m good friends with in Kasper Schmeichel.
“You can understand that it’s difficult to speak about these kinds of subjects. I’ll let fate handle things.”
Lloris has not featured for Spurs since that humiliating 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United; subbed off at half-time due to injury with his team 5-0 down.

Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a number of potential replacements. Though Brentford contract rebel David Raya feels far more attainable at this stage than the likes of Alex Meret; a Scudetto winner with Napoli.
“(Napoli) director (Cristiano) Giuntoli made a huge effort for the contract renewal, which was very complicated. Now, the season is over and there will be holidays. And then, we’ll see,” Meret’s agent, Federico Pastorello, tells Tuttomercatoweb.
“But Alex is very happy to be in Naples. He wants to stay in Naples and I think he will.”
Tottenham, meanwhile, appear to be closing in on a new manager at last. Ange Postecoglou, a two-time Scottish Premiership winner at Celtic, could be unveiled as early as next week.
